Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls Pittsburgh Concert reviews
A Concert Work of Art
Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls started the show with 16 selected poems from their new album, Leave Your Sleep. As from previous concerts, they are very personable. The crowd was slow to get in, so no opening act. They just talked with the audience for a few minutes before they started. Before each poem, they gave a summary of the writer and why they picked it to put to music. The poems are from juvenile literature. If you are not familiar with the new album, it is totally different from any of their previous work. They and the band do an absolute fantastic job with the works. Their voice was outstanding. After the 16 new poems were played, they came out for 2 additional sets of old favorites, around 8 songs. Again, absolutely amazing, their voice is simply the best. Overall, one of my favorite concerts because I have never seen anything like it, where others' poems were put to music by an established artist. If you don't like the new works, I would not recommend the concert because 3/4 of it is devoted to Leave Your Sleep. They played slightly over 2.5 hours.
